d = 1/4 mile = 402 m
d = 1/2at² {general equation relating distance with time and acceleration}
tA = time for Car A to finish race
tB = time for Car B to finish race
d = (0.5)(11.1)(tA)²
402 = 5.55(tA)²
tA = √402/5.55 = √72.4 = 8.5 s

VfB = 90.0 = (11.3)tB1) {tB1 = time for Car B to reach its max speed = 90.0 m/s}
tB1 = 90.0/11.3 = 8.0 s
dB1 = distance Car B travels in 8.0 s:
dB1 = 1/2a(tB1)² = (0.5)(11.3)(8.0)² = 361.6 m
tB2 = time for Car B to travel 402 - 361.6 = 40.4 m
tB2 = 40.4/90.0 = 0.45 s
tB = tB1 + tB2 = 8.0 + 0.45 = 8.45 s WINS by a very slight margin
